After nearly 25 years, Smriti Irani is set to return to the small screen as the iconic Tulsi Virani in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2. The makers unveiled her first look on Monday, reigniting excitement among fans of the cult classic. The show's first promo is also slated for release later tonight at 10:30 pm, adding to the buzz.

In an emotional and powerful statement, Irani shared her thoughts on stepping back into a role that not only defined Indian television but also changed the trajectory of her life. Speaking about the journey, she said, “Some journeys come full circle—not for nostalgia, but for purpose. Returning to Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is not just a step back into a role, but a return to a story that redefined Indian television and reshaped my own life.”

The original Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, produced by Ekta Kapoor, aired from 2000 to 2008 and became one of the most iconic serials in Indian TV history. Irani’s portrayal of Tulsi Virani, a strong and resilient daughter-in-law navigating complex family dynamics, earned her immense admiration and popularity.

Reflecting on the impact the show had on her career and life, she added, “It gave me more than commercial success—it gave me a connection with millions of homes, a place in the emotional fabric of a generation.”

Since her original stint as Tulsi, Irani transitioned into a significant political role, serving in various capacities in the Indian government. She acknowledged the dual paths her career has taken, saying, “In the 25 years since, I’ve straddled two powerful platforms—media and public policy—each with its own impact, each demanding a different kind of commitment.”

Now, as she returns to the world of fiction and storytelling, Irani emphasized the larger purpose behind her decision. “I return not just as an actor, but as someone who believes in the power of storytelling to spark change, preserve culture, and build empathy,” she stated. “In contributing to this next chapter, I hope to honour the legacy of Kyunki—and help shape a future where India’s creative industries aren’t just celebrated, but truly empowered.”

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 will premiere on Star Plus from July 28, bringing back not only Smriti Irani but also original cast members Amar Upadhyay, Hiten Tejwani, and Gauri Pradhan, who will reprise their respective roles.
