Salman Khan’s much-anticipated film Sikandar, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna, has had a mixed run at the box office since its release. Despite the high expectations surrounding the film, particularly with Salman Khan leading the charge, Sikandar has not been able to make the impact its makers had hoped for. According to the latest box office update on Sacnilk.com, the film has collected Rs 82.45 crore till now, but its performance has seen a significant dip on day 4.
The film opened strong on its release day, capitalizing on the festive occasion of Eid, earning Rs 26 crore on Sunday. The momentum continued on the second day, with the film making Rs 29 crore. However, the box office numbers took a downward turn starting from day 3, where it collected Rs 19.5 crore. On the fourth day, the decline became more pronounced, with Sikandar earning just Rs 9.75 crore, marking its lowest single-day collection so far.
This sharp drop of around 50% in box office earnings between the first and fourth day has raised concerns about the film's long-term prospects. Despite this drop, Sikandar has managed to cross the Rs 80 crore mark, with the current total standing at Rs 84.45 crore. This performance highlights the importance of the opening weekend, especially for big-budget films, and how the post-festival period can heavily influence box office performance.
Directed by AR Murugadoss, known for his work in successful films like Ghajini, Sikandar tells the story of a man named Sikandar (played by Salman Khan) who embarks on a quest for justice to protect the three people his wife had donated organs to. The film's premise has intrigued many, but the mixed reviews and inconsistent audience reception have affected its box office numbers.
In a recent press interaction ahead of the release, Salman had expressed hope that audiences would support Sikandar as well as other big releases this week, including Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan and Sunny Deol’s Jaat. Salman had said, "I am hoping people working get good bonuses on Eid so that they can watch Sikandar, Mohanlal sir's L2: Empuraan, and also Sunny Deol's new film (Jaat). Three big stars are coming with big films, and I hope all work."
While the film enjoyed a strong opening due to Eid festivities, the post-festive period has seen a dip in collections, which will now determine whether Sikandar can recover its momentum or not.
