Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ranveer Singh, once considered one of Bollywood’s most dynamic actor-director duos with collaborations like Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani, and Padmaavat, now appear to be facing a rift in their relationship.
As per latest speculations, recent professional developments have reportedly caused tension in their relationship.
According to veteran journalist Subhash K Jha, Ranveer Singh is reportedly upset that he was not chosen to play the lead in Bhansali's upcoming epic love triangle, which also stars Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, and Ranbir Kapoor.
Ranveer reportedly declined an offer to play the second male lead, which eventually went to Vicky Kaushal. The actor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali appear to have been at odds over this choice.
Sanjay's absence from Ranveer's 40th birthday celebration on July 6 served as more evidence of the rumoured fallout. According to Deccan Chronicle, the actor celebrated the event with a small party that was only attended by close friends.
However, nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
Notably, the filmmaker who was instrumental in establishing Ranveer's career and superstar persona was not present.
Professionally, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is currently working on Love & War, which is scheduled for release in March 2026 and stars Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, and Ranbir Kapoor. Ranveer Singh is currently working on Dhurandhar, an intense action drama helmed by Aditya Dhar.

The first look of the film, unveiled on Ranveer’s birthday, showcases him in an intense avatar. The film also boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal.
While both Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ranveer Singh are focusing on their respective projects, the absence of camaraderie between two of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated collaborators has left fans wondering if this marks a permanent shift in their creative relationship.
