Sandra Oh, known for her role in Grey's Anatomy, is gearing up for the release of the most anticipated upcoming animated film, The Smurfs. She will portray the role in the new The Smurfs movie, a bold reimagining of the beloved franchise set in Paris. She has recently recalled a full-circle moment with the film.
The Emmy-winner Sandra Oh recalled her childhood days in Canada when she dressed in blue and sang her heart out in a school play. She shared, “In one of my first school plays, I was a Smurf and sang a little song,”
The actress has further admitted that being a part of the film was a sentimental journey back to her childhood in Canada, where she read the original French comics by Belgian artist Peyo.
She said, “I grew up reading The Smurfs comics in the original French.” She added, “So yes, I’m an O.G. Smurf fan. There’s something timeless about them—maybe it’s their shape, or maybe just the fact that they’re blue. Either way, the memories run deep.”
For the unversed, Sandra’s character Moxie is a cunning and quick-witted leader of a secret group of activist Smurfs. She is a new addition to the Smurf universe.
Directed by Chris Miller and Matt Landon, the Grammy-award-winning singer Rihanna will return to voice Smurfette. The film features an ensemble voice cast including John Goodman, James Corden, Kurt Russell, Nick Offerman, Marshmello, and Daniel Levy, among others.
In the upcoming instalment, Smurfette (voiced by Rihanna) leads the Smurfs on a daring mission into the real world to rescue Papa Smurf. However, the Smurfs have joined new allies in their adventure. They embark on a mission to discover what defines their destiny in order to save the universe from chaos.
Paramount Pictures releases The Smurfs in India on July 18 in English and Hindi.
