Hombale Films’ Kantara: Chapter 1 has exploded onto the big screen, and it’s safe to say—it’s a phenomenon.
The film has delivered what is officially the biggest weekend at the box office this year, raking in an eye-popping Rs 335 crore in just four days worldwide. That’s not just a hit—it’s a cinematic storm.
From the moment it hit theatres on October 2, Kantara: Chapter 1 has struck a powerful chord with audiences and critics alike.
The numbers speak for themselves. On day one, the film collected a massive Rs 88 crore gross. Day two saw a minor decline to Rs 65 crore, but the weekend saw a 25% increase, reviving the momentum. Saturday collections jumped to Rs 82 crore, and by day three, the film had already crossed the Rs 235 crore mark globally. Sunday saw yet another surge, pulling in Rs 61.5 crore nett (after taxes), bringing the four-day India nett total to Rs 232.75 crore.
This is a brief overview of the India Day-wise Box Office (nett):
Day 1: 61.85 crore rupees
Day 2: 54.4 crore rupees
Day 3: 55 crore rupees Day 4: 61.5 crore rupees
Numbers are only one aspect of Kantara: Chapter 1's success. The movie, which was released in seven languages—English, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, and Kannada—has found a following with viewers from all walks of life.
Its unique, pan-Indian (and even worldwide) appeal stems from its fusion of folklore, rooted storytelling, and sweeping visuals.

Fans and trade watchers are now looking ahead with excitement, as all signs point toward the film racing past the Rs 1000 crore mark in the coming weeks. And with this kind of momentum, that milestone doesn’t seem far off.
A part of review by Moneycontrol for Kantara: Chapter 1 read, "Arvind S. Kashyap's cinematography is amazing; it shows both action and scenery really well. Each frame looks rich and interesting because of the high-quality production values. Ajaneesh Loknath's background music works well in some instances, but it can be a little too loud at times. But tunes don't stick with you for long. Rishab Shetty's vision and ambition to bring folklore to life on such a huge scale make Kantara: Chapter 1 a great movie, even though the pacing may have been a little off. "
Kantara: Chapter 1, the prequel to the 2022 movie Kantara, was directed by Rishab Shetty and also starred him. Jayaram, Gulshan Devaiah, and Rukmini Vasanth play important parts in the movie as well.
