Telugu superstar Jr NTR has a huge fan base in the country, and his die-hard fans have taken a legal step against the individuals who altered and posted obscene pictures of the well-known actor on social media.
The Hyderabad City Police Commissioner, C.V. Anand Sajjanar, IPS, has received a formal complaint calling for action against the individuals.
According to Deccan Chronicle, some individuals created and shared morphed and defamatory pictures of the actor, which infuriated fans and internet users. According to the pertinent provisions of the defamation and cybercrime laws, the police are urged by the complaint to find and punish the offenders.
Supporters of Jr. NTR have harshly denounced this behaviour, describing it as a spiteful and disrespectful attempt to damage the actor's reputation. They have urged the government to act quickly and forcefully against those disseminating such offensive material.
A wider conversation about cyberbullying, online abuse, and the misuse of social media to disseminate manipulated or phoney images of public figures has also been sparked by the incident. Based on the complaint, police are expected to launch an investigation shortly.
Several actors from the Hindi cinema and the South film industry have also started taking early steps, seeking personality rights protections.
