Rapper Ikka defends Diljit Dosanjh’s concert ticket prices, slams critics

Rapper Ikka Singh recently defended the high ticket prices for Diljit Dosanjh's concerts, calling out the hypocrisy of those who criticise them while readily paying for tickets to international artists like Coldplay.

In an interview with India Today Digital, Ikka, who recently debuted as a judge on MTV Hustle 4 alongside Raftaar, praised the rise of live concerts in India and their significance for artists.

Ikka highlighted how live shows have been a major factor in the success of stars like Diljit Dosanjh and Karan Aujla. He expressed pride in the achievements of desi artists, saying, "Look at Diljit, he's already performing at Coachella. We never imagined this would be possible. As desi artists, we are proud of him; he inspires us every day. The craze for his shows is unbelievable—they sell out completely."

The rapper emphasized that live concerts are essential for singers and musicians, as most of their income comes from these events. He pointed out that Bollywood and music labels offer limited financial rewards after deducting costs. "The money is in the shows," he stated. "Recordings are like oral exams, but live performances are the practical tests. That's when artists can truly gauge their audience's emotions."

When asked about the criticism surrounding the high ticket prices for Diljit’s concerts, Ikka defended the Punjabi superstar, explaining that Diljit has worked extremely hard to reach this level of success. “That man deserves it. I’ve seen him perform at small colleges and even in akhadas. He has hustled so much and deserves every bit of it. Also, look at the production value of his shows—the sound, stage, and atmosphere are world-class. He’s giving fans a lifetime experience. If not him, who else will ask for such a price?”
