"Now that she's back in the atmosphere / With drops of Jupiter in her hair/ She acts like summer and walks like rain/ Reminds me that there's a time to change" - when the song 'Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)' by American pop-rock band Train released in 2001, it quickly climbed to the top 5 of the Billboard 100. Charlie Colin, the bassist on this Grammy-winning song and an original member of Train, died early on Wednesday. He was 58 years old.

Charlie Colin's sister confirmed to the Associated Press that the musician died after slipping in the shower on Wednesday. He had been house-sitting for a friend in Brussels, where he was teaching music at a conservatory before his death.

Colin had left Train in 2003, following struggles with substance abuse. The band took to social media to pay tribute to him. Train wrote on X (formerly Twitter: "When I met Charlie Colin, I fell in love with him. He was THE sweetest guy and what a handsome chap. Let’s make a band that’s the only reasonable thing to do. His unique bass playing a beautiful guitar work helped get folks to notice us in SF and beyond. I’ll always have a warm place for him in my heart. I always tried to pull him closer but he had a vision of his own. You’re a legend, Charlie. Go charm the pants off those angels"

The original Train (band)

Colin had been part of a band called The Apostles in Los Angeles, US. In the mid-1990s, former Apostles bandmate Rob Hotchkiss decided to form a band with Pat Monahan. Hotchkiss and Monahan invited Colin and Jimmy Stafford (also from The Apostles) as well as Scott Underwood, to form a new band, Train, in 1994.

By 1998, the band had released their first album titled 'Train'. 'Drops of Jupiter' followed in 2001.

After he quit Train in 2003, Colin continued to make music. In the 2010s, he formed bands like Painbirds (with Hotchkiss) and The Side Deal.

'Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)' remains one of Colin's best-loved songs.
