Ravi Teja’s much-anticipated film, Mr. Bachchan, directed by Harish Shankar, hit theatres on Independence Day but unfortunately opened to mixed reviews and a lukewarm box office response.
Despite the buzz and high expectations surrounding the star-studded project, the film managed to collect Rs. 5.3 crore on its first day—a figure far below industry predictions, especially considering Ravi Teja's star power and the buildup prior to its release.
According to reports by Sacnilk, Mr. Bachchan garnered approximately Rs. 3.50 crores in net collection within India on its opening day. The film saw a 41.18% overall occupancy rate in Telugu-speaking regions, with the highest turnout during the afternoon shows, peaking at 53.75%. However, the morning and night showings saw significantly lower audience attendance, at 35.04% and 30.73%, respectively.
Mr. Bachchan is the Telugu adaptation of the 2018 Hindi film Raid, which starred Ajay Devgn. The plot revolves around a gripping income tax raid, with Ravi Teja taking on the role of a stern government official leading the operation.
While the core storyline of the original film has been retained, Mr. Bachchan has infused elements unique to Tollywood to cater to the local audience.
However, despite these efforts to localize the narrative, the film struggled to meet the heightened expectations.
Veteran actor Jagapathi Babu plays the film's primary antagonist, delivering a performance that contrasts well with Ravi Teja's intensity. Meanwhile, Bhagyashri Borse makes her Tollywood debut as the female lead, adding fresh energy to the screen. Despite the strength of the cast, the film failed to pull in large crowds on opening day.

The film’s underwhelming start could be attributed to the crowded release window. Independence Day saw multiple high-profile films competing for audience attention, making it a challenge for Mr. Bachchan to dominate. Competing releases likely siphoned off a portion of the audience that Ravi Teja’s film was banking on.

As the weekend approaches, all eyes will be on Mr. Bachchan’s box office performance to see whether it can recover some ground. The film’s fate now hinges on word of mouth and sustained interest from Telugu cinema-goers.
