Harshvardhan Rane, best known for Sanam Teri Kasam, returned to the big screen this Diwali with Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, co-starring Sonam Bajwa. Despite facing stiff competition from Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma, the romantic thriller is holding its own impressively at the box office.
The film opened on a strong note, earning around Rs 9 crore on its first day, which is comparable to the opening of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. Considering that Thamma dominates the majority of screens nationwide, this is a solid start. With a relatively modest budget, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has already recovered a large part of its investment within just two days.
On its second day, Wednesday, the film witnessed a slight drop of about 15 percent, collecting Rs 7.50 crore according to early estimates from Sacnilk. This brings the total two-day collection to Rs 16.50 crore. Industry trackers suggest the film’s run could have been even stronger if not for Thamma’s extensive screen share — reportedly three times higher — as reported by Box Office India.
Still, the performance trend is encouraging. The second-day hold after a major holiday like Diwali signals strong word-of-mouth. Regions like East Punjab and West Bengal have shown unexpectedly high footfalls for a film of this scale, hinting at a broader nationwide appeal.
While the festive season certainly gave it a push, the film’s sustained momentum indicates that it’s connecting with audiences beyond the initial holiday hype. Family crowds and young audiences are reportedly driving repeat viewings, which bodes well for its weekend prospects.
If the positive trend continues, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat could become Harshvardhan Rane’s biggest theatrical hit to date, surpassing his previous best, Sanam Teri Kasam. That earlier film only gained cult status and crossed Rs 40 crore much later after its re-release, whereas this one is building steam from day one.
Box Office Breakdown:
Day 1 (Tuesday): Rs 9 crore
Day 2 (Wednesday): Rs 7.50 crore (early estimates)
Total: Rs 16.50 crore
