In a rare moment of candor on Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle, Janhvi Kapoor sat down with Karan Johar for an open conversation that peeled away the glitter of stardom. The 27-year-old actress spoke about the pressures of beauty, online scrutiny, and how her late mother, Sridevi, helped her navigate an industry obsessed with perfection.
Janhvi started by addressing how young girls today are constantly bombarded by idealized images on social media. She said, “I don’t believe in gatekeeping. I was one of the young girls who was very impressionable with the onset of social media and seeing everyone being judged and look in a certain way. And I don’t want to perpetuate to young girls this idea of perfection. I’m a big believer of ‘you do you’, do whatever makes you happy. I would be very happy to be a completely open book about things.”

Addressing the bizarre online rumors about her alleged cosmetic procedures — including the infamous “buffalo-plasty” — Janhvi laughed at the absurdity but also took the moment seriously. “I think I have been very intelligent, conservative and proper about what I have done,” she said. “Of course I had the guidance of my mom and I’d like to share that. Also as a cautionary tale because if a young girl sees a video like this and decides ‘mujhe bhi ye buffalo-plasty karna hai’, and if something goes wrong, that would be the worst thing ever. I think transparency is important.”
Reflecting on her mother’s advice, Janhvi revealed that Sridevi was deeply aware of how appearance could both empower and trap an artist. “She always told me that beauty is meant to enhance your confidence, not define your worth,” Janhvi shared. “If you ever decide to change something, make sure it’s for yourself, not because of fear or comparison.”
