Hailed as one of the greatest trilogies to ever grace a movie screen (the TDK trilogy is second best), The Lord of the Rings, is set to be returning movie theatres with a remastered and extended version, this summer, via Fathom Events.
The Oscar winning director, Peter Jackson, for his work on the highly acclaimed fantasy trilogy, will now be able to enthrall audiences just the way the film was meant to. Because in all honesty, this grand spectacle of cinema isn’t meant to be seen on a measly TV screen. The beastly clobbering and foot stomping of the Isengard orcs, would sound nothing like it would than in an IMAX theatre hall (no statement of it being released in IMAX has been stated, its just a hopeful wish of mine).
The lord of the Rings, stand the test of time as one of the most influential pieces of cinema ever created. It has inspired and blown away millions of people all over the globe. The avant-garde filmmaker James Cameron also said that the groundbreaking trilogy helped inspire the multi-billion dollar grosser, ‘Avatar’.
Speaking of much newer audiences being able to watch it, its not confirmed that the film is being released in the Indian subcontinent. Which is very disheartening to say the least, but there might be a slight glimmer of hope in the next few weeks, regarding its re release in India (again, I’m just a hopeful person). As of now, there also hasn’t been any reports as to whether the extended and remastered versions will hit OTT platforms. But the original theatre cuts are available currently on Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and Jio Cinema.
The upcoming three-day affair, a joint effort by Warner Bros and Fathom Events will be screened at Fathom Events participating chains, like AMC, Cinemark and Regal (none of these theatre chains are in India, I’m sobbing). It kicks off on June 8th with the inaugural film, "The Fellowship of the Ring" from 2001. This will be succeeded by "The Two Towers" from 2002 on June 9th, and culminating with "The Return of the King" from 2003 on June 10th.
