Film producer Boney Kapoor shared details about the early struggles and financial hardships his family endured. He recounted a poignant story about his father and veteran producer Surinder Kapoor’s initial years in Mumbai, which were marked by both struggle and significant change thanks to the intervention of Prithviraj Kapoor.
Boney Kapoor explained how his father came to be in Mumbai: "My father was brought to Bombay by Prithviraj Kapoor. My grandfather handed over my father to Prithviraj ji because my father had been forced out of about 10-12 jobs. He was thrown out because he stood up for workers' rights and supported their causes.” This early advocacy for workers' rights set the stage for many of the family's initial challenges.
The family faced further trials after the death of Boney’s grandmother. "When my grandmother passed away, Anil and I decided that he will pursue acting and I will handle production. We had to keep things stable at home as well. My father had heart problems, and we didn’t want to add to his stress," Boney shared, outlining the division of responsibilities between him and his brother, actor Anil Kapoor, during those tough times.
He also revealed that the family lived in an outhouse on Raj Kapoor's property, a space usually reserved for household staff like servants and drivers.
Boney Kapoor went on to describe a particularly difficult period when the director of one of his father's films passed away during production, leading to a string of financial difficulties for the Kapoor family. "My father was in debt. We were in a sh** hole,” he confessed bluntly, not shying away from the harsh realities they faced.
Despite these numerous challenges, Boney Kapoor has established a successful career in Bollywood. His recent film, 'Maidaan', starring Ajay Devgn and Priyamani, has performed well, garnering Rs 31.86 crore worldwide according to the filmmakers.
