Ajay Devgn’s ‘Maidaan’ has finally managed to pick up pace and the movie earned more than its opening day. The movie, which has received good word of mouth with many praising the acting of Ajay Devgn and Gajraj Rao, saw an upward trend.
The movie had collected Rs 4.5 crore on the day of its release, which was Thursday (April 11) but on Saturday, the movie saw a jump in collections and earned Rs 5.75 crore. The total up to now is Rs 15.60 crore total in India, according to trade site Sacnilk.
‘Maidaan’ also stars ‘Family Man’ actress Priyamani, who plays the role of Ajay Devgn’s wife in the movie.
The movie is a sports biopic based on the life of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, who coached the Indian team between 1952- 1962. Rahim Bhai’s tenure as a football coach was known as the Golden Era of Indian football.
‘Maidaan’ also had paid previews on Wednesday, and it collected approx. Rs 2.6 crore net in India then, and on the opening day, it earned Rs 4.50 crore net at the box office.
The movie did hit a small roadblock initially, when Mysore Sessions court had stayed the release of 'Maidaan' owing to plagiarism charges. But the makers appealed in Karnataka High Court and the court cleared the movie of plagiarism charges and allowed its full release. The movie has been directed by Amit Sharma and produced by Akash Chawla, Arunava Joy Sengupta, Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios.
‘Maidaan’ clashed with another biggie ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ at the box office. The movies were released on the holy festival of Eid and they planned to cash in on the extended weekend.
Varun Dhawan, Shahid Kapoor have also praised Ajay Devgn in ‘Maidaan’ and posted rave reviews about the movie.
