Kajol returns to the big screen with the mythological horror film Maa after three years of hiatus. The highly anticipated film saw a slow start at the box office but seems to have a surge on the second day.
According to Sacnilk, Kajol’s Maa earned Rs 6 crore net in India on the second day of release. The total of the film now stands at Rs 10.30 crore. The film had an overall 26.38% Hindi Occupancy on Saturday, with 9.94% in morning shows, 26.87% in afternoon shows, 30.26% in evening shows and 38.45% in night shows.
However, Maa opened with a decent collection of Rs 4.65 crore net in India on June 27. The film is expected to perform well on its first Sunday.
Maa received mixed reviews from the critics. According to Moneycontrol, “The film tries to do something different by blending horror with mythology, but the result feels more like a creative idea than a fully formed genre experience. You wait for chills, but they rarely arrive.”
