Kangana Ranaut's film Emergency has finally received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), earning a UA certification. The film's release was postponed multiple times due to various issues, but it is now set for its long-awaited release.
The clearance for the film comes with specific conditions. The CBFC has mandated that the filmmakers make three particular cuts and substantiate the controversial historical claims with factual sources.
The required trims include removing references to former US President Richard Nixon's alleged comments on Indian women, a contentious statement regarding Winston Churchill’s views on Indians, and a scene depicting Pakistani soldiers assaulting Bangladeshi refugees.
Emergency, a film directed by Kangana Ranaut in which she portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was originally set to hit theaters on September 6. However, the film's debut was delayed because it was still awaiting certification from the CBFC.
Only a few days before the planned release, Kangana announced that the film’s debut would be postponed due to delays in obtaining the necessary certification from the CBFC.
Earlier, the Bombay High Court declined to provide any immediate relief following a directive from the Madhya Pradesh High Court, which instructed the censor board to review objections to the film before issuing certification.
The film has become embroiled in controversy, with Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, accusing it of misrepresenting the community and presenting inaccurate information.
Emergency, produced by Zee Entertainment Enterprises, stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry, and Milind Soman in key roles.
