Kangana Ranaut's upcoming film Emergency, set to release on September 6, has recently been thrust into the spotlight due to a wave of controversy and death threats aimed at the actress.
The film, which features Kangana in the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has sparked heated debates and calls for a boycott from various groups.
In a recent interview on Aap Ki Adalat, Kangana addressed the death threats and the push to remove certain scenes from the film. She firmly stated that she will not be intimidated or allow these threats to affect the film’s release.
“Mujhe aap daraa nahi sakte. Mujhe yeh log daraa nahi sakte. Main iss desh ki awaaz marrne nahi dungi. Main iss desh me samvidhanik adhikaro ko khatam nahi hone dungi. Main hi nahi, har ek kalaakar ko abhivyakti ki azaadi honi chahiye. Koi bhi sacchayi ki awaaz dabaa nahi sakta. Yeh log mujhe dhamka le, yeh log chahe jo bole mujhe, jaan se maarne ki dhamki de, chahe kuch bhi karle, mai is desh ki awaaz ko marrne nahi dungi,” Kangana asserted.
She further explained that if she were to back down, it would set a dangerous precedent where artists could be silenced through intimidation. “Kyunki agar main piche hatt gayi toh yeh log jo hai kal ko kisi bhi artist ko uthne nahi denge, yeh sabko dara dhamka ke chup kara de aur usko karke apni ek alag history likhenge. Jo ki humare sath pehle bhi huwa hai. Hume ek alag version history ka padhaya gaya hai. Toh woh hum nahi hone denge. Humne khud dekha hai… desh ke liye hume bhi toh kuch karna hai na? Humne desi ki mitti se humne jo ann jal liya hai,” she added.
Earlier this week, Kangana also took to social media to express her frustration regarding the film’s Censor Board certification process. She claimed that there were demands to remove scenes related to Indira Gandhi’s assassination and Bhindranwale, which she found both “unbelievable” and disheartening.
On the career front, Kangana has been active with several recent projects. Apart from Emergency, she has appeared in Dhaakad, an action thriller where she played a spy, and Tejas, where she portrays an Air Force pilot.
Her diverse roles continue to showcase her versatility and commitment to impactful storytelling.
