Rhea Chakraborty recently opened up about the harrowing time she spent in jail following the death of her boyfriend, Sushant Singh Rajput, whose tragic death on June 14, 2020, shook the nation.

In a candid interview with Humans of Bombay, Rhea shared the emotional and psychological toll she endured, revealing how her life was turned upside down as she became a public enemy overnight.

Rhea recounted the relentless media scrutiny and the intense trolling she faced during this dark period. She spoke about the trauma of losing someone so close while simultaneously being vilified by the public.

“Don't bend, don't cry, don't break. You have to take a bullet, you have to take it in the a**. I remember looking at myself in the mirror and saying, you're scared, right? It almost felt like the mirror said yes. Investigations every day, there was media and mobs under my building constantly, and it required a lot of strength to even make it to the investigation because I was worried that something would happen on the way,” Rhea recalled.

Despite the immense pressure, Rhea emphasized the resilience it took to emerge from that period stronger, noting that the truth was her guiding force throughout the ordeal and continues to be even now, four years later.

“When I walked out of prison, I knew I would never be the same person again. Jail is actually a very different world because there’s no society in jail. It’s all about survival, you know? Every single day was about surviving. And each day felt like a year,” she shared.

Rhea described jail as a place where everyone is reduced to just a number, and survival becomes the sole focus. Reflecting on her experience, she also admitted that not everyone around her was a true friend, and the ordeal left her family shattered.

“I have not forgiven everybody. Some people are on my head now,” she concluded, acknowledging the deep scars left by her experiences.

Despite the difficult times, Rhea is now embracing a fresh start with her new podcast, Chapter 2. This show marks a new beginning for her, as she shares her insights and experiences with the world, turning a painful chapter of her life into a platform for growth and reflection.
