The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has formally closed the probe into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, ruling out any foul play or criminal involvement by Rhea Chakraborty. In its closure report submitted earlier this year, the agency gave Rhea a clean chit, stating that no evidence supported allegations that she “illegally confined, threatened, or abetted” Sushant’s death.

Sushant Singh Rajput, the beloved star of Pavitra Rishta, Kedarnath, and Chhichhore, was found dead at his Bandra apartment on June 14, 2020. His passing ignited one of the most widely followed and emotionally charged investigations in recent memory, spanning the CBI, Enforcement Directorate, and Narcotics Control Bureau.

Despite the CBI’s findings, Sushant’s family has rejected the closure report, calling it an “eyewash” and alleging that crucial evidence was ignored. The family’s petition before a Patna court, which will next hear the matter on December 20, challenges the agency’s conclusion that the death was a case of suicide.

Here’s what the CBI’s closure report revealed as per Hindustan Times.

1. Rhea Left the Flat on June 8
The report confirms that Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik left Sushant’s apartment on June 8, 2020—six days before his death. CBI officials wrote that “none of the accused persons stayed or lived with him between June 8 and June 14.” Phone records also showed no direct communication between Sushant and Rhea or her family after she left. The only exchange during that week was a brief WhatsApp conversation between Sushant and Showik on June 10.

2. Sushant’s Sister Stayed Until June 12
While Rhea’s exit from the apartment was verified, the CBI noted that Sushant’s sister, Meetu Singh, stayed with him between June 8 and June 12. The report also mentioned that Sushant’s former manager, Shruti Modi, had not been to his residence since February due to a leg injury. This directly contradicts earlier speculation that Rhea or her family continued to exert influence over him during his final days.

3. Rhea Took Back Her Own Belongings
Responding to claims of theft or misappropriation, the CBI clarified that Rhea only took personal items when she moved out. “She took away her Apple laptop and Apple wristwatch, which were gifted to her by Sushant,” the report stated. Beyond this, no property or funds were found to have been removed from Sushant’s possession “dishonestly or without his knowledge.”

4. Sushant Considered Rhea Family
According to investigators, Sushant and Rhea had been in a live-in relationship since April 2019. His finances were independently handled by his accountant and lawyer, not by Rhea. The report further revealed that Sushant had described Rhea as “part of the family” to his flatmate, Sidharth Pithani. Because of this, the agency concluded that expenses incurred for her travel or accommodation could not be treated as criminal deception or cheating under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code.

5. ‘Threat’ Allegations Were Hearsay
One of the more explosive accusations from Sushant’s family was that Rhea had threatened to make his medical records public. The CBI said no digital or direct evidence supported this. “The only allegation is that Sushant told his family about such a threat, but this remains in the realm of hearsay,” the report noted. Investigators found no text messages, emails, or recorded communication that corroborated any intimidation or pressure from Rhea or her family.
