Ankita Lokhande’s mother has opened up about the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, recalling the years she says she spent living under the same roof along with him and her daughter during Ankita and Sushant’s relationship.
In a chat with Galatta India, she spoke about the time she lived with the couple and the bond she witnessed between them. Reflecting on that phase, she said, “Ankita, I were living with Sushant for 7 years. I have been living in this house for 7 years. I have spent 7 years with that boy.”
Ankita’s mother suggested that, from what she saw closely, Sushant was frequently misread by people around him, especially during turbulent phases.
She said her daughter’s feelings for him were deep and unquestionable. “And she really loved him a lot,” she said, before adding that she felt many people failed to understand him. “That boy was like that, right? But what I mean to say is that people misunderstood him a lot at that time. So many wrong things were done for him.”
Without naming specific incidents, she indicated that she was disturbed by the kind of allegations and narratives that floated around Sushant, and implied that she felt compelled to speak up when she believed the truth was being twisted.
In the same conversation, she also referred to Ankita’s husband Vicky Jain and claimed he stood by her during difficult moments when she felt she had to respond to what was being said publicly. “That he did this, Ankita. Then I used to speak, I used to speak to Vicky. Vicky used to speak to me,” she said.
She went on to describe Vicky as supportive during that time. “Vicky supported me at that time,” she said, adding that their conversations included discussing what was being said outside and how the family should deal with it.
Sharing a specific memory of those discussions, she said, “And Vicky, I have spoken to Vicky. Vicky used to ask me, what do you say?” She recalled thinking about addressing things directly in public, saying, “So I said, Vicky, should I make a video and upload it? That what is he saying? Does he know what the reality is? What is the reality? I spoke to my daughter.”
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai residence on June 14, 2020. His passing at the age of 34 sent shockwaves across the country, sparking widespread grief, intense media coverage, and multiple investigations.
The Mumbai Police initially termed it a case of suicide, while subsequent probes by central agencies, including the CBI and AIIMS forensic panel, examined various angles. His death triggered national debates around mental health, nepotism, and the pressures of the film industry, leaving a lasting impact on fans and the entertainment fraternity.
