SUGA, the renowned rapper and member of BTS, is currently under investigation following an incident where he was found driving under the influence of alcohol on the night of August 6, 2024. In recent developments, South Korean media outlet JTBC Newsroom has released alleged footage showing a person believed to be SUGA riding a foldable electric scooter at a reported maximum speed of 30 km/hr.
On August 7, various South Korean media outlets began reporting on SUGA’s involvement in the DUI incident, confirming that he is being investigated by the police. The footage, which is said to feature SUGA, shows a person riding a foldable electric scooter on the road, navigating between a parked car and a moving vehicle.
According to the report, the electric scooter in question, with a maximum speed of 30 km/hr, is classified as a personal mobility device. Under South Korean law, driving such a device while under the influence can lead to the revocation of the driver’s license and a fine, depending on the level of alcohol detected.
Further details from the report indicated that if the electric scooter exceeds 30 km/hr and has a high engine capacity, the driver could face a fine of up to 10 million KRW and potential imprisonment.

The incident reportedly occurred around 11:30 PM KST on a street in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, where SUGA was attempting to park his scooter near his home. He lost his balance and fell, prompting a patrolling officer to assist him. The officer, after detecting the smell of alcohol, took SUGA to a nearby police station for a breathalyzer test. The test revealed that SUGA’s blood alcohol concentration was over the legal limit of 0.08%, which could result in the revocation of his driver’s license.
In response to the incident, both SUGA and BTS's agency, BIGHIT MUSIC, issued apologies, expressing regret for the situation.
