The sudden death of Chinese actor Yu Menglong, also known as Alan Yu, reportedly from a fall from a window, has sparked widespread speculation online. While his agency confirmed that he passed away at the age of 37, his mother dismissed any claims of foul play.
However, social media users have been sharing videos and other material, claiming that Yu’s fall may not have been accidental and raising questions about the events leading up to his death.
Taiwanese lawyer Yan Ruicheng weighed in on the matter, criticizing the speed with which Chinese authorities declared there was “no criminal suspicion,” issuing a statement just 12 hours after Yu’s death. According to Yan, it would be “impossible to close the investigation in such a short time.”
He suggested that if there had been unlawful detention, violence, or evidence tampering, Yu’s case would represent more than a personal tragedy—it would be a test of society’s willingness to protect the vulnerable rather than look away.
Yan also warned that if Yu’s body was cremated before a complete autopsy could be performed, the credibility of the investigation would be “seriously weakened.”
He said that any offenders involved could face prison sentences. There are also mentions of a USB drive that could contain sensitive information, though its existence has not been officially confirmed.
The lawyer added that if six people were involved in any wrongdoing, their combined sentences could total up to 500 years, and if 17 people were involved, the total could reach 1,500 years.
Meanwhile, Chinese actress Sun Lin posted a viral message online, saying, “Your fans will fight for justice. Justice may be delayed, but it will never be absent,” reflecting the public’s demand for clarity and accountability in the case.
