Following the enormous success of Stree 2, Shraddha Kapoor threw herself into her next big project, Eetha, a biopic based on the life of renowned Tamasha performer Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar.
However, when the actress hurt herself while filming an intense Lavani dance sequence, the event that was supposed to be a celebration of Maharashtrian folk art quickly became difficult and had to end abruptly.
While performing Lavani, a lively, high-energy Maharashtrian folk dance renowned for its fast-paced beats and challenging choreography, Shraddha fractured the toe of her left foot, according to Mid-Day.
The sequence, set to an original composition by Ajay–Atul, required Shraddha to perform a series of quick, rhythmic movements in full traditional attire.
A source told Mid-Day, “Lavani music characteristically has fast-paced beats and a quick tempo. In this number composed by Ajay-Atul, Shraddha, sporting a vibrant Nauvari saree, heavy jewellery, and a kamarpatta, had to perform a series of steps in succession to the beats of the dholki. To look the part of a young Vithabai, the actor has put on over 15 kilos. In one step, she mistakenly put all her weight on her left foot and lost her balance as a result.”
After the injury, the actress briefly resumed shooting in Mumbai for some emotional scenes, but her pain worsened.
The source added, “After returning to Mumbai, they began to film on a set at Madh Island, where Shraddha shot some emotional sequences. However, after a couple of days, her pain aggravated and they had to discontinue the shoot. The unit will regroup two weeks later when she has completely recovered.”
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Eetha is shaping up to be one of the most challenging roles of Shraddha’s career — one that demands not only physical endurance but also emotional depth. The film also features Randeep Hooda in a pivotal role and pays tribute to Vithabai’s resilience and artistry.
Shraddha, who hasn’t had a release this year, was last seen in Stree 2 (August 2024), one of the year’s biggest blockbusters with a box office haul of Rs 875 crore. Once recovered, she’s expected to return to Eetha before moving on to her much-awaited fantasy film Naagin.
