Despite her professional achievements, Jennie recently faced controversy due to an indoor smoking incident.

BLACKPINK’s Jennie has officially secured the trademark for "Jennie Ruby Jane" in South Korea. After a year-long process, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) approved her application, submitted in January 2023. The registration was finalised in April 2024, making Jennie the official owner of her English name.

News of her successful trademark acquisition was reported by Korean media outlet Star News. This move marks a significant step in Jennie’s career, allowing her to protect her personal brand. Jennie, whose Korean name is Kim Jennie, revealed on a variety show that her legal name is indeed Jennie Ruby Jane, a name she adopted while studying in New Zealand during her childhood. She has been using this name on her Instagram and YouTube channel and chose it for her acting debut in the HBO series The Idol, alongside The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp.

In June 2023, Jennie made headlines when she used her English name for her acting debut in The Idol. Her fans, known as BLINKs, have speculated that the trademark acquisition could hint at a solo comeback, possibly under her new label, ODD ATELIER. This speculation grew when Jennie hinted at her first solo album release during her appearance at the 2024 Met Gala. Her individual contract with YG Entertainment expired, and she subsequently launched her solo agency, ODD ATELIER (OA). Fans eagerly await her forthcoming music, which will mark her first release under this new label.

Despite her professional achievements, Jennie recently faced controversy due to an indoor smoking incident. She was criticised for vaping in a closed space and allegedly exhaling on the faces of her staff members. Although she later apologised through her agency, the incident attracted significant attention and took time to settle.

Her journey from K-pop idol to a multifaceted artist continues to captivate fans and the media alike, as she carves out her path with the Jennie Ruby Jane brand.
