'Because I'm a lioness': Sonia Gandhi's quip shines as Congress celebrates Amethi victory

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate shared a clip on X of a light-hearted moment between the party's newly-elected Amethi MP KL Sharma, his wife and the Gandhi family.

In the clip, KL Sharma's wife can be seen lauding Rahul Gandhi and telling Sonia Gandhi that she has given birth to a "lion". To this, Sonia quips: "It's because I am a lioness!".

KL Sharma, a long-time Congress loyalist, emerged as a "giant killer" after wresting the family stronghold of Amethi (Uttar Pradesh) back from BJP's Smriti Irani in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

He defeated Irani, who had won against Rahul in 2019, by a big margin of over 1.67 lakh votes.

KL Sharma shared the full version of their interaction with Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi on X.

"My heartfelt thanks to the Gandhi family for their trust, love and support. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to win the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi!" he said in the caption.

During the meeting, KL Sharma also praises the Gandhis for their guidance throughout the elections.

"Amethi is completely emotional towards the Gandhi family," he said.
