Polling for the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has seen a 50.16% voter turnout in five hours, and in 2019, it was 65.7% voter. This time the fight is between BJP candidate and former mayor Alok Sharma and Congress candidate and district president Arun Srivastava.
Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, the "City of Lakes," is one of the 29 parliamentary constituencies of Madhya Pradesh. Comprising eight legislative Assembly constituencies, the Bhopal district serves as a hub of political activity and civic engagement.
The Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency, boasting nearly 20 lakh voters, stands as a steadfast bastion of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has consistently entrusted BJP members with parliamentary representation.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur of the BJP secured victory with an impressive 8,66,482 votes. Digvijaya Singh of the Congress party, who garnered 5,01,660 votes, claimed the second position. Madho Singh Ahirwar of the BSP stood in third place with 1,277 votes. The election results underscored the BJP's continued stronghold in the Mandate constituency, reaffirming its popularity among the electorate.

During the 2014 election, Alok Sanjar of the BJP clinched victory in the constituency, securing 7,14,178 votes. PC Sharma of the Congress party lost after winning 3,43,482 votes. Rachna Dhingra of the AAP polled 21,298 votes.
While the 2019 elections saw high action between the BJP’s Sadhvi Pragya Thakur taking on Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh, this time both the BJP and the INC have chosen new faces.
This time the fight in Madhya Pradesh Lok Sabha Election 2024 is between BJP candidate and former mayor Alok Sharma and Congress candidate and district president Arun Srivastava.
While the BJP has maintained a stronghold on the Bhopal seat since 1989, recent developments suggest a potential opening for the Congress. Sharma's loss in the state assembly elections last year to Congress' Atiq Aqueel could tip the scales in favour of the Congress. This setback for Sharma might embolden the Congress party's efforts to challenge the BJP's dominance in Bhopal during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The candidates in the fray:
