Earlier, Akash Anand was appointed as the National Coordinator and declared Mayawati's successor as the BSP chief.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, on May 7, removed her nephew Akash Anand as the party national coordinator, as well as her political successor until he "attains maturity".

The BSP Chief took to microblogging site X, announcing her decision in a series of posts.

"I declared Akash Anand as the National Coordinator of BSP and my successor, but in the larger interest of the party and the movement, he is being separated from both these important responsibilities until he attains full maturity", she wrote.

Mayawati also stated that Anand Kumar, Akash's father, will continue in his current role within the party.

In April, a case was booked against Akash Anand and four others for reportedly using objectionable language during a political rally in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur.

The case was filed against Akash Anand, party candidate Mahendra Yadav, Shyam Awasthi, Akshay Kalra, and Vikas Rajvanshi under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 171C, 153B, 188, 502(2), as well as Section 125 of the Representation of the People (RP) Act.

This is a developing story, more to come.
