The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has joined hands with Canva to introduce a new teacher training and certification programme aimed at enhancing digital skills among Indian educators. The initiative includes three self-paced, free courses designed to improve visual learning, creativity, and digital fluency in classrooms across India.
As part of this collaboration, Canva will provide free access to its education platform, while NCERT will ensure that the content is aligned with the national curriculum and is suitable for regional contexts. The courses will be hosted on DIKSHA, the Ministry of Education’s digital platform for school education, and will be made available in multiple Indian languages.
The training is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and focuses on developing 21st-century skills such as design thinking, AI integration in classrooms, and collaborative learning. Teachers will also be trained to use digital tools to create engaging classroom content like lesson plans, infographics, and presentations.
To ensure wider access, the training videos will also be broadcast on PM eVidya DTH TV Channels, making the programme accessible even to those with limited internet connectivity. On successful completion, participants will receive a joint certificate from NCERT and Canva.
The programme offers educators free access to Canva’s extensive library of teaching resources, including more than 500 integrated apps. These resources range from translation tools to interactive games, all aimed at supporting classroom instruction across different subjects and grades. Canva's platform also includes AI-powered features that simplify the creation of teaching materials and help save time while enhancing student engagement.
In 2024, over 25 million students and educators joined Canva Education globally, contributing to a user base of more than 100 million. The company reports that over 1 billion designs were created by teachers and students in the past year alone. Its AI tools, like Dream Lab, allow educators to generate visuals instantly, helping to make complex topics easier to understand.
