IGNOU Admission July 2025

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the admission deadline for its July 2025 academic session. The new last date for submitting applications is now October 15, 2025, providing aspirants with an additional two weeks to complete their registration process.

This extension applies to a wide range of programs offered in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online (OL) modes. However, candidates should note that this deadline is not applicable for certificate programs and certain semester-based courses.

In a key compliance with University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations, IGNOU has made the generation of a DEB-ID compulsory for every learner before they can register for any ODL or Online course.

What is a DEB-ID?

A DEB-ID is a unique identifier issued by the UGC-DEB (Distance Education Bureau). It is designed to bring transparency and maintain a standardized record for all students pursuing education through open and distance learning or online modes in India.

How to Generate Your DEB-ID?

Students must first create an ABC ID (Academic Bank of Credits ID) if they don’t have one.

Using the ABC ID, the DEB-ID can be generated through any of the following official platforms:

  • UGC-DEB Portal: https://deb.ugc.ac.in/StudentDeBID
  • DigiLocker: https://www.digilocker.gov.in
  • ABC Government Portal: www.abc.gov.in

The process typically requires verification using an Aadhaar card or PAN card.

UGC Advisory for Students

The UGC has aligned the admission deadline for all ODL and online courses across universities to October 15, 2025. In an official notice, the commission has strongly advised students to:

Verify the recognition and eligibility status of the ODL and online courses on the official UGC-DEB portal: deb.ugc.ac.in.

Check the accreditation status of the institutions offering these programs before paying any fees.

This step is crucial to ensure that the program and institution you are enrolling in are recognized and will provide a valid degree.

How to Apply for IGNOU Admission July 2025?

Prospective students can follow these steps to secure their admission before the October 15 deadline:

Step 1. First, create your mandatory DEB-ID using the process mentioned above.
Step 2. Go to the IGNOU admission website onlinerr.ignou.ac.in.
Step 3. Click on the “Admission July 2025” link and select “Click here for new registration”.
Step 4. Complete the registration, log in, and carefully fill out the detailed application form.
Step 5. Pay the prescribed course fee online and download the confirmation page for all future references.

This extension presents a valuable opportunity for numerous students to pursue or advance their educational journey with India's premier open university. Ensure you complete the DEB-ID requirement and submit your application before the final deadline on October 15, 2025.
