The 30-year-old Indian techie, Mohammed Nizamuddin, who was shot by the police in California, was allegedly harassed and racially discriminated against by his former employer, colleagues and roommates to an extent that allegedly his "food was poisoned".
Originally from Mahabubnagar in Telangana, Mohammed Nizamuddin was shot dead by police after an alleged altercation with his roommate in Santa Clara on September 3.
According to police, he stabbed his roommate and was found pinning him down when officers arrived.
Allegations of racial discrimination and harassment
Just days before his death, Nizamuddin wrote a detailed post on LinkedIn where he described himself as a “victim of racial hatred.” In the post, he accused his employer, colleagues, roommates, and even local authorities of subjecting him to harassment. He wrote that his food was poisoned and that he was being forced to vacate his accommodation.
He alleged that while working for EPAM Systems, an American IT services company associated with Google Cloud, he was underpaid, wrongfully terminated, and continuously targeted because of his race.
On September 3, 2025, at approximately 6:18 A.M. Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) officers responded to the 1800 Block of Eisenhower Drive in Santa Clara for the report of a stabbing in a residence. He claimed the company engaged in salary fraud, failing to pay him according to Department of Labor wage levels. His termination, he said, was not only unfair but followed by intimidation and continued harassment from what he described as a “racist detective and team.”
In his post, Nizamuddin said, “I have been a victim of racial hatred, racial discrimination, racial harassment, torture, wage-fraud, wrongful termination and obstruction of Justice. Today I decided to raise my voice against all odds. Enough is enough, white supremacy/racist white American mentality has to end. Oppression of corporate tyrants must end and everyone involved in it must be punished severely."
He identified the "main aggressors" as his "colleagues, employer, client, detective and their community altogether are the main aggressors". "They are the troublemakers and oppressors behind the current chaos, not me. It is happening with me today, and it can happen with anyone tomorrow. So I ask the world to do the needful in demanding justice against the oppression and wrong doings of people involved. I totally understand I am no saint, but they need to understand they are no God," he said.
In a statement, Santa Clara police said the probe into the circumstances leading to Nizamuddin's death is "active and an open investigation".
