Mahindra has launched its new electric 7-seater SUV, the XEV 9S, in India. The model is available in four variants -- Pack One Above, Pack Two Above, Pack Three and Pack Three Above. Each variant adds a clear set of incremental features across performance, design, safety, technology and convenience.
Pack One Above forms the base of the XEV 9S line-up but comes with a wide set of standard equipment across key categories. In terms of performance, it offers two battery pack choices -- 59kWh and 79kWh -- and supports superfast charging (20-80% in 20 minutes) through 140kW and 180kW DC chargers. Power output stands at 170kW for the 59kWh pack and 210kW for the 79kWh pack. Features such as electric power steering with variable gear ratio, 10-metre turning circle, multiple driving modes with Boost Mode, multi-step regeneration, one-touch single-pedal drive, and iLink front and 5-link rear suspension are included.
The exterior is equipped with a panoramic sunroof, illuminated logo, bi-LED headlamps with DRLs, LED taillamps, 18-inch wheels with aero covers and premium exterior cladding. Safety equipment includes six airbags, a high-stiffness bodyshell, all-wheel disc brakes, brake-by-wire technology, an electronic brake booster offering 46 value-added features, driver drowsiness detection, electronic parking brake, rear parking sensors with an HD camera and TPMS with individual tyre pressure display.
Pack One Above also features triple 12.3-inch screens, Qualcomm 8155 chipset, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 5G connectivity, pre-installed content apps, BYOD capability, connected features via the Me4U app, and a 4-speaker + 2-tweeter audio system. Comfort features include sliding second-row seats, multi-step recline, height-adjustable driver seat and belt, rear wiper/washer, rear demister, push-button start, spacious frunk (150 litres) and trunk (up to 527 litres), cooled console storage, Type-C fast charging ports and smart climate modes including PawPal, Keep Mode and CampMe. Laminated door glass is also standard.
Pack Two Above adds a 70kWh battery option (in addition to 79kWh) with a 180kW power output for this trim. Charging capability is upgraded to 160kW DC fast charging for the 70kWh pack. Multi-step regeneration adds an Auto Mode.
Design upgrades include 18-inch alloy wheels (replacing aero covers), soft leatherette interior trims, leatherette seat upholstery and a leatherette steering wheel. Safety enhancements include Level 2 ADAS with one radar and one vision camera, 360-degree camera, blind view monitor and front parking sensors.
Tech additions are significant as the trim receives Sonic Studio by Mahindra, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon system with Dolby Atmos, wireless charging (front row), and NFC key support via phone and key card. Convenience features added include ventilated first-row seats, powered driver seat with lumbar adjustment, auto-fold ORVMs, ORVM auto-tilt on reverse, dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming IRVM, an ergo lever for the co-driver seat, mounted device holding provision for BYOD and an auto defogger.
Pack Three builds on Pack Two with a focus on improved suspension, safety, design and comfort. The variant adds intelligent adaptive suspension. Exterior upgrades include LED DRLs with centre signature lamp, sequential turn indicators, a start-up lighting sequence and LightMeUp ambient lighting with 16 million colours integrated into the cabin and sunroof.
Safety equipment increases further with seven airbags (including driver knee airbag), Level 2+ ADAS with five radars and one vision camera, driver-initiated auto lane change, lane centring and emergency steering assist, blind spot detection, front and rear cross-traffic alert, front fog lamps, cornering lamps and auto booster lamps. Acoustic laminated door glass is also included. Tech updates include dual wireless charging (front and rear) and advanced air filtration with AQI display. Comfort upgrades include a powered co-driver seat with power boss mode, ventilated second-row seats, a second-row snack tray, electrically deployed flush door handles, passive keyless entry and window sunshades for the second row.
The top variant, Pack Three Above, adds specific enhancements in technology, safety and lighting. Design additions include Night Trail carpet lamps and CapTouch steering switches. The chipset is upgraded to Qualcomm 8295 with 24 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. New features include AutoPark Assist, video calling, and drive video recording. Safety additions include VisionX AR HUD, Eyedentity (driver and occupant monitoring system) and Secure360 with live view and recording.
