A perfect moment to begin with this quote from the movie Last Hurrah: "There's one thing we all can be sure - if he had it to do over again, there's no doubt in the world he would do it very, very differently." That's probably true about how Sachin Tendulkar's last T20 innings panned out on Sunday, but certainly not in the context of the final result.
The Mumbai Indian had disappointment writ large over his face after being dismissed for 15 as he walked through the 'Corridor of Honour' formed by his Mumbai Indians' team-mates. Perhaps it would be better to call it sadness than disappointment, as it was the last walk out of the T20 arena for the batting institution Tendulkar's been. But the air of sadness gave way to smiles of joy a couple hours later when Tendulkar's MI team-mates gave their icon a fitting farewell by winning the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 - their second silverware of the year after the maiden IPL triumph earlier in May. There've been very few cricket subjects that have managed to sustain the fascination about them over a period as long as 24 years - Sachin Tendulkar is one of them. He's been an oeuvre, a macro, an alma mater - providing subject matter varying from longevity to age to motivation to dedication to warmth to endurance to performance to responsibility. But nothing's perpetual. And in Tendulkar's case, another chapter in his cricket career closed. Deep into the misty twilight of his decorated career, Tendulkar bid adieu to Mumbai Indians on October 6, 2013. Discover the latest Business News, Sensex, and Nifty updates.
