The All India Management Association (AIMA), the national apex body of the management profession in India, held its 40th National Management Convention in Delhi on Thursday, 26 September.
The event was attended by some of the biggest corporate leaders, who discussed several key issues facing the Indian economy currently. CNBC-TV18’s Ronojoy Banerjee and Rituparna Bhuyan gives a report of what the industry stalwarts had to say. The broad theme of the convention this time around was courage in uncertainty. However, this time I hope the two ventures that they have undertaken will succeed.”On the other hand, Wipro chairman Azim Premji had the audience enthralled with his tips on the art of giving. He even lucidly explained the subtle difference between charity and philanthropy. “Giving a fish to someone is charity while teaching him how to fish is philanthropy,” he said.Referring to the issue related to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which has been made mandatory by the new laws that govern companies he added, “My biggest critic on the law is that they are trying to force something which should be much more spontaneous and natural.” “This started as voluntary, it will probably move to becoming statutory. Then one day it may just be taken and say 1 percent you must contribute towards the central kitty. These things shouldn’t happen, but you keep open a flood gate of possibilities when you do things,” he added while speaking on the issue of mandatory CSR.Also in attendance was government's chief trouble shooter Kamal Nath, who called upon all political parties to make the last parliament session of this government a success. Speaking at the convention, Kamal Nath, Parliamentary Affairs Minister said, ”Who would have thought 10 years ago we would be talking of this growth or we would be talking of the PPPs in the scale in which they have been.
