Mahanagar Gas is one of India’s largest players in the city gas distribution business and sole authorised distributor of compressed natural gas in Mumbai area.
In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Rajeev Mathur, MD, Mahanagar Gas gave an update as to how business is panning out for them so far this quarter.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board talking about unified gas tariffs for the country as a whole is a welcome step because it is going to allow excess of gas from anywhere in the country or abroad to customers at unified tariffs, he said.
We will have opportunity of sourcing gas from different sources which are far away at prices which are moderate in terms of tariffs, he added.
The impact will not be large. The entire cost will be passed on to the customers, said Mathur.
We have been doing about 6-7 percent compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) in the past and we are confident that we should be able to maintain the rate and increase it as we go along, he further mentioned.
If things remain as they are, we should be able to maintain our margins, he said.
