Left Front partner Forward Bloc today came out in support of the Mamata Banerjee government on the Singur bill and said that the Tatas would lose support by entering into a legal battle with it.

"The Tatas will lose the support of the people by entering into legal battle on the Singur land issue," state secretary of the Forward Bloc Ashok Ghosh said referring to Tata Motors challenging the act in the Calcutta High Court.

"There should not be any impediment to the government initiative to return land to the unwilling farmers in Singur," Ghosh told reporters here.

Noting that Tata Motors shifted its unit from Singur to Gujarat creating a problem for the then state government, Ghosh said it had entered into a legal battle with the current one "to disrupt the process of returning the acquired land to unwilling farmers.

"People never accepted the shifting of the Tata Motors unit from here. There is a confusion in the minds of the people about the purpose of the Tatas moving court," he said.

He said the Left Front government''s stand in Singur and Nandigram was wrong which had resulted in its defeat in the assembly elections.

"The state government has taken the right decision according to the law. If any industry can be set up even after returning the acquired land to unwilling farmers, what is the wrong in it?" Ghosh said.
