Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday that he had spoken with US President Donald Trump for the second time in two days, describing the conversation as "very productive."
“We covered all the aspects of the situation: defence of life in our country, strengthening our capabilities -- in air defence, resilience, and long-range capabilities,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.
The discussion followed a call on Saturday, during which Zelensky urged Trump to help mediate peace in Ukraine, citing the former US president’s recent achievements in the Middle East.
After the call, Zelenskyy posted on X: “I had a call with US President Donald Trump—a very positive and productive one. I congratulated @POTUS on his success and the Middle East deal he was able to secure, which is an outstanding achievement. If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well—including the Russian war.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a call with French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday, requesting additional air defence systems and missiles, warning that Russia is exploiting global distractions to intensify attacks on Ukraine.
"I spoke with President Emmanuel Macron... I informed him about our priority needs -- first and foremost, air defence systems and missiles," Zelensky said in a Facebook post.
"Russia is now taking advantage of the moment –- the fact that the Middle East and domestic issues in every country are getting maximum attention," he added.
The discussion comes as Russian strikes on Ukraine continue to escalate. On Friday, Moscow targeted the country’s power grid, causing widespread blackouts, though by Saturday, electricity had been restored to over 800,000 residents in Kyiv.
