US President Donald Trump has praised ABC’s decision to pull Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air following controversial remarks by the late-night host about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Trump also called for the cancellation of Seth Meyers, host of Late Night with Seth Meyers, and Jimmy Fallon, host of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Taking to Truth Social, he posted, “Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible.”
Trump further shifted his focus from Kimmel, and he criticized Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, who have also been frequent critics of his presidency. "That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT," he added.
The suspension follows Nexstar Media Group’s announcement that it would preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its ABC-affiliated stations, citing the host’s remarks about Kirk’s shooter as “offensive and insensitive.” Trump’s comments come amid his ongoing criticism of late-night television hosts and perceived media bias.
How did Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers criticize Trump?
On the September 16 episode of his show, Seth Meyers commented on President Donald Trump's foreign policy, likening his approach to peer pressure among teenagers.
He joked that Trump’s conditional stance on sanctioning Russia was like saying, “I'll do it first if you do it first,” and mocked his writing style, comparing it to a scam email: “Why does the president of the United States write with the uneven grammar and syntax of a scammer sending you a fake job listing?”
Meyers’ remarks came after Trump posted on Truth Social that he was prepared to impose sanctions on Russia for flying drones into Poland’s airspace, but only once all NATO nations had agreed to stop buying oil from Russia.
On Truth Social, he wrote, “I am ready to do major Sanctions on Russia when all NATO Nations have agreed, and started, to do the same thing, and when all NATO Nations STOP BUYING OIL FROM RUSSIA.”
Meanwhile, on September 17, Jimmy Fallon poked fun at Trump’s UK visit, joking that the president loves Britain because “when he holds a little tea sandwich, his hands look normal-sized.”
He also teased Trump’s rapport with King Charles, saying, “Over the years, Trump and Charles have actually bonded because they both know what it's like to inherit everything they have. Besides that, they also know what it's like to spend all day on the throne.”
Fallon also joked about Trump’s decision to impose 50% tariffs on India, as well as new tariffs affecting Brazil and Canada, while sneaking in a jab at Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Today, more of President Trump’s tariffs hit over 90 countries, including Canada, Brazil, and India. The only places Trump didn’t charge are North Korea and Epstein’s island,” Fallon said on The Tonight Show.
