Amid ongoing political unrest in Nepal, 38 Indian nationals were safely evacuated to India through the Raxaul border in Bihar with the help of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
Officials confirmed that the group comprised 22 people from Andhra Pradesh and 16 from Karnataka. They were escorted across the Birgunj–Raxaul border by the Indian Consulate General in Birgunj and handed over to local authorities in Bihar.
On their return, the evacuees expressed gratitude to the Indian Embassy and security agencies for facilitating their safe passage.
Earlier, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu had issued emergency contact numbers, urging Indian nationals in Nepal to reach out for assistance or evacuation support.
Meanwhile, security has been stepped up along the India–Nepal border at Pashupati Fatak, with the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Bengal Police restricting movement and allowing only emergency travel.
Tourists, who usually cross into Nepal from Darjeeling through this route, voiced disappointment after being denied entry. Local shopkeepers also reported a sharp decline in business following the closure.
At present, most cross-border movement is limited to Nepali citizens visiting India for medical check-ups.
