At least two people were killed after a small plane crashed near Hicks Airfield in Tarrant County, Texas, on Sunday afternoon, authorities said. The aircraft struck several trucks and trailers before igniting a large fire, which has since been contained.

According to the Fort Worth Fire Department, the crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. in the 12000 block of North Saginaw Boulevard, just off Business 287 near Avondale. Multiple 18-wheelers and trailers caught fire at the site. “The blaze has since been brought under control,” the department told Fox News.

Surveillance footage obtained by WFAA showed the plane crashing nose-first and sliding along the pavement at high speed before colliding with an 18-wheeler and several trailers. “It sent the aircraft vertical as it burst into flames,” the footage revealed. Thick plumes of smoke were visible from miles away.

One witness described hearing a loud boom, with a frantic customer rushing inside to call the police. Lauren Anderson, who also saw the crash, said she observed a 100-foot “giant black cloud of smoke” that dissipated after authorities arrived.

The crash site is located between Fort Worth Alliance Airport and Fort Worth Meacham Airport, west of Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport. Hicks Airfield is a private, member-owned airstrip north of Fort Worth in unincorporated Tarrant County.

Authorities have not confirmed the number of people on board or the identities of the victims. “The FAA and NTSB have been notified and are expected to investigate the cause of the crash,” the Fort Worth Fire Department told Fox News.

Emergency crews from several agencies responded to the scene, and local media reported that more details were being gathered.
