South India is set for a major transport upgrade as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced plans for a high-speed bullet train connecting Hyderabad, Chennai, Amaravati, and Bengaluru. The project, aimed at transforming mobility, trade, and tourism across the southern states, was revealed at the India Food Manufacturing Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam on Friday, August 29, 2025, where CM Naidu confirmed that a survey for the corridor is already underway.
He said, "Very soon, the bullet train is going to come to South India. A survey is being done. It will connect Hyderabad, Chennai, Amravati, and Bengaluru, all four cities. More than five crore people live here, making it the biggest cluster and the biggest market in the world. It is going to happen, and when it does, you are going to see the largest stakes."
If brought to life, this ambitious project will cater to nearly five crore people, cutting travel times drastically and providing a world-class alternative to road and traditional rail travel.
Why This Bullet Train Matters
The proposed high-speed corridor will connect four of South India’s most dynamic cities:
A Game-Changer for Tourism and Economy
For travelers, this high-speed network could be a dream come true. From Tamil Nadu’s historic temples to Bengaluru’s cosmopolitan vibe and Hyderabad’s cultural treasures, tourists will be able to explore multiple cities in less time.
On the economic front, faster logistics will strengthen supply chains—helping manufacturers, exporters, and service industries alike. Businesses in Bengaluru will gain quicker access to Chennai’s ports, while investors in Amaravati and Hyderabad will find themselves better connected to markets across the South.
Building the Future of Travel in South India
The project also promises social and environmental benefits. By shifting passengers from congested highways and short-haul flights to high-speed rail, it could reduce traffic, cut emissions, and make urban mobility more sustainable.
Andhra CM Naidu, speaking at the India Food Manufacturing Summit, confirmed that surveys are already underway to assess the logistics and transport improvements the bullet train will bring. Alongside this, the government also plans to upgrade road infrastructure to international standards, positioning South India as a major logistics hub.
Looking Ahead
India’s first bullet train—between Mumbai and Ahmedabad—is already under construction and expected to launch soon. With South India now in line to get its own high-speed corridor, the country’s transport landscape is evolving rapidly.
If executed as envisioned, the Hyderabad–Chennai–Amaravati–Bengaluru bullet train could redefine not just how people travel, but also how they live, work, and explore South India.
