Travel from Dehradun to Mussoorie in Just 15 Minutes

Imagine gliding effortlessly over the lush valleys and majestic hills of Uttarakhand, leaving behind the chaos of winding roads and traffic jams. This dream will soon become a reality with India’s longest ropeway, set to connect Dehradun and Mussoorie in just 15 minutes. Offering a perfect blend of convenience and breathtaking vistas, this project is poised to transform travel and tourism in the region and will be operational by September 2026.

A Shortcut to Paradise
Currently, the journey from Dehradun to Mussoorie takes 1.5 to 3 hours by road, especially during peak tourism seasons when traffic snarls are common. But the new ropeway, spanning 5.5 kilometers, will cut this travel time drastically while providing an unparalleled aerial experience. Travelers will glide through automatic passenger trolleys, equipped with modern safety features and panoramic windows, accommodating up to 1,300 passengers per hour in one direction.

A View Worth the Ride
The ropeway promises more than just speed—it’s an experience in itself. As you ascend, the dense greenery, meandering rivers, and quaint hillside villages unfold beneath you, offering a cinematic preview of Mussoorie’s charm. For honeymooners, families, and adventure-seekers, this ride will set the tone for a memorable trip to the "Queen of Hills."

Boosting Tourism and Sustainability
Built under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at a cost of Rs 300 crore, the project isn’t just a travel solution—it’s a game-changer for Uttarakhand’s tourism industry. By reducing vehicular traffic, the ropeway aims to decrease pollution and provide an eco-friendly, year-round travel option. This sustainable approach will ensure that even during rains or snowfall, when roads are often blocked, tourists can still reach Mussoorie comfortably.

Modern Facilities for Tourists
To complement the ropeway, a 10-story multi-level parking facility is under construction in Purkul village near Dehradun. This parking lot, accommodating over 2,000 vehicles, will also feature cafes and restrooms, ensuring a hassle-free experience for travelers. The upper terminal at Gandhi Chowk in Mussoorie is also being developed with a well-planned approach road and modern amenities.

A Leap Towards Completion
Scheduled to be ready by September 2026, the ropeway project is advancing steadily, with all land acquisitions complete and construction progress being closely monitored. Uttarakhand Tourism Secretary Sachin Kurve has emphasized the importance of maintaining high-quality standards and ensuring timely completion.

A New Era of Travel
Whether you’re visiting for a quick getaway, a romantic escapade, or an adventurous retreat, the Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway will soon redefine the way you explore this iconic hill station. Say goodbye to traffic and hello to the skies—because your journey to Mussoorie is about to become as beautiful as the destination itself.
