O Panneerselvam today got a boost, with an MLA and 4 MPs of AIADMK joining him after deserting V K Sasikala who threatened to hold protest tomorrow while targeting Governor Vidyasagar Rao for the delay in swearing her in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Dissident AIADMK leader E Madusudanan has written to the Election Commission urging it not to recognise V K Sasikala as the party General Secretary saying she was not elected to the post as per party by-laws.
Madusudanan had been removed from all posts besides the primary membership for going against the party principles and bringing disrepute to it, she said in a statement here.
"Sorry. Declined," a bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and justices N V Ramana and D Y Chandrachud said when the lawyer sought urgent listing and hearing.
The ongoing power struggle in Tamil Nadu today played out in the Lok Sabha with AIADMK members disrupting proceedings by raising slogans apparently supporting V K Sasikala as the next Chief Minister.
Expressing her readiness to "face any probe" over the death of J Jayalalithaa, AIADMK General Secretary V K Sasikala said that she hopes the Tamil Nadu Governor would "uphold the Constitution" and invite her to take oath as Chief Minister.
Injecting a new twist to the ongoing political drama in Tamil Nadu, Governor C Vidyasagar Rao would be reaching here tomorrow as AIADMK General Secretary V K Sasikala today mustered an overwhelming majority of party MLAs against a rebellious O Panneerselvam, who claimed he has their backing.
Refuting AIADMK's allegation that it was aiding Chief Minister O Panneerselvam in his revolt against his party's leadership, DMK today said its support to him was issue-based.
The decision to remove Panneerselvam comes after a top level meeting Sasikala chaired at the Poes Garden residence, in which some sitting ministers and a section of senior functionaries participated.
This was Sasikala's very first interaction with journalists, albeit at an impromptu press meet in front of her residence at around 1.15 AM.
"Sasikala does not deserve to be either the party supremo or the Chief Minister," Pandian told reporters here, two days after Sasikala was elected AIADMK Legislature Party leader, paving the way for her becoming the chief minister.
