Starting July 1, Indian Railways has introduced a key update to Tatkal ticket bookings via IRCTC. To enhance transparency and curb misuse, the revised rule requires Aadhaar verification of passengers during the booking process. This step is aimed at streamlining Tatkal reservations and making them more secure and efficient.
What is the new Tatkal booking rule?Under the updated system, users must link their Aadhaar number with their IRCTC account to book Tatkal tickets. Additionally, at least one passenger on the ticket must be Aadhaar-verified. This change will apply to both sleeper and AC classes and is part of the Railways’ broader digital authentication drive.
Step-by-step guide to link Aadhaar with IRCTC1. Log in to your IRCTC account at www.irctc.co.in
2. Go to ‘My Profile’ and select ‘Aadhaar KYC’
3. Enter your Aadhaar number and verify using OTP sent to your registered mobile number
4. After verification, your Aadhaar is linked to your IRCTC profile
How to add Aadhaar-verified passengers for Tatkal booking1. Under ‘My Profile’, go to ‘Master List’
2. Add a passenger by filling in name, age, gender, and Aadhaar number
