Instant messaging app Snapchat can now run natively on the Apple iPad. Snapchat's native support for the iPad arrived with a new app update. It means that now you can run Snapchat in full screen on your iPad.
The Snapchat version 13.4.0.41 on the App Store brought native iPad support for the app on August 26.
“Snapchat now offers native support for iPad! This means that Snapchat will fill an iPad’s full screen, providing you with a larger canvas when capturing Snaps and allowing you to see more friends on the 2nd and 4th tabs. It’s still the same Snapchat you know and love, but this time on the big screen!”, says Snap on the Snapchat App Store page.
Although Snapchat has arrived on the iPad, it opens in full screen only in portrait mode for now. Snapchat for iPad needs proper optimisation for iPadOS so that people can use it in landscape mode too.
It is interesting to note that while Snapchat launched on iOS in 2011, it took 13 years for it to launch on the iPad. The compact form factor and easy portability of the iPhone worked in favour of Snapchat, and in general, they offer the same advantage to other social media apps as well.
Hence, using Snapchat on the smaller, easily manageable display on iPhone being a lot easier is one of the reasons why the iPhone got priority and the iPad didn’t get any. Also, compared to the iPad, the iPhone is easier to carry around which is another reason Snap wasn’t in a hurry to bring Snapchat to the iPad.
