  • Ramlal, married at 11, cracked NEET UG with 632 marks at 21
  • He overcame poverty, child marriage, and family opposition
  • His success inspires hope for education in his Rajasthan village

The small village of Ghosunda in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh district doesn't see many success stories. But in a simple house near the Bhedach river, something special was happening—a story that would take a child who was married at 11 all the way to cracking India's toughest medical exam at 21.

Ramlal was in Class 6 when his family made a decision that changed his life. Following old customs still seen in many villages, they got him married. At 11, he barely understood what was happening. He just knew life would never be the same.

Money was always tight at home. Like many poor families, they saw education as a luxury, not a need. When Ramlal passed Class 10 with 74 percent marks, his father wanted him to stop studying.

But something inside the young boy refused to quit. He didn't know exactly what he wanted from life. But he knew he wanted more than what the village offered.

Life didn't make it easy for him. By age 20, Ramlal was not just a husband but a father too. He had responsibilities that most students never have to think about.

Still, he kept studying.

When he pushed to continue after Class 10, things got ugly. His father got so angry that he hit him. In a village where every pair of hands means food on the table, a son who wanted to read books seemed like a waste.

So what changed? A family friend stepped in to help. Some local teachers also spoke up for him. Slowly, they made his father understand—maybe this boy had something special. Finally, his father agreed. He even took a loan to send Ramlal for coaching classes.

Ramlal chose science in Classes 11 and 12. But here's the thing, he didn't even know about NEET at first. He learned about this medical entrance exam from friends and teachers who told him what it could mean for his future.

His first try in 2019: 350 marks. Not enough.

2020: around 320. Even lower. Very disheartening.

2021: about 362. Small improvement, but still far from a medical seat.

By now, he had joined a coaching center in Kota, the famous city where lakhs of medical students go every year to prepare. The training helped. In 2022, his score jumped to 490. Better, but still not enough for admission.

Most people would have given up. Five years of trying the same exam, watching friends move ahead in life, carrying the weight of a family's hopes and a loan that needed repayment.

Ramlal kept going.

2023 was his year. He finally made it. This time, he scored 632 marks in NEET UG at the age of 21.

Students from big cities with fancy coaching centers, fast internet, and quiet study rooms struggle to pass. Ramlal did it from a village where many homes don't have proper toilets, let alone study spaces.

Today, Ramlal's father speaks with pride. The same man who once hit his son for wanting to study now tells everyone about his boy, the one who will become a doctor.

This change goes beyond one family. In villages where child marriage still happens and education for boys is often cut short, one success story can inspire many. Younger children in the family now get encouragement to study. Neighbours who once called the boy "foolish" now ask how he did it.

His story touches people because it's not about being a genius. His early scores—350, 320, 362—show a student who struggled, learned and slowly got better. It's about sticking with it when walking away would have been so much easier. It's about a father who finally understood, a community that started believing, and a boy who kept dreaming.
