Snap has announced Snap OS 2.0, the next version of its operating system designed for Spectacles. The update comes ahead of the public launch of Spectacles in 2026 and brings new tools for browsing, watching content, sharing memories, and accessing augmented reality (AR) experiences.
Revamped browser
One of the most notable additions in Snap OS 2.0 is the redesigned browser. It features a minimalist interface optimized for speed and efficiency, with improvements in page loading and power consumption. Users can navigate with touch or voice, manage history, and refresh pages with greater ease.
The browser now supports widgets, bookmarks, and a customizable toolbar. It also allows resizing of windows, giving flexibility similar to using a laptop. With WebXR support, the browser can now deliver immersive AR experiences directly from supported websites.
Spotlight for immersive viewing
The update also reimagines Spotlight, Snap’s content discovery feature. A new Spotlight Lens allows users to watch vertical videos in an immersive overlay on their surroundings. The feature lets people anchor videos in one spot or keep them in view while moving, bringing creator content into everyday life without a phone.
Sharing and travel features
Snap OS 2.0 introduces the Gallery Lens, which offers an interactive way to browse captures taken with Spectacles. Users can view content in a 3D carousel, zoom in for details, and organize favorites before sharing them on Snapchat or with friends.
A new Travel Mode has been added to stabilize AR content while in motion. This feature ensures that digital overlays remain fixed whether a user is traveling by plane, train, or car.
Expanding Lens ecosystem
Snap highlighted the growing global developer community building Lenses for Spectacles. Developers from over 30 countries are contributing experiences, from creative tools to navigation aids. Fan favorites like SightCraft, NavigatAR, and Pool Assist are among the early examples.
The company also revealed that Synth Riders, a rhythm-based dance game, will soon be available for Spectacles. Players will be able to interact with music-driven visuals and gameplay elements while remaining connected to their physical environment.
