Delhi, Ahmedabad and UP Police turn India’s T20 World Cup win into hilarious X banter.

India’s T20 World Cup triumph over New Zealand did not just spark celebrations among cricket fans but it also triggered a humorous exchange between the official X handles of police departments from Delhi, Ahmedabad and Uttar Pradesh, giving social media a glimpse of the lighter side of policing.

As the high-voltage final unfolded on Sunday night, Delhi Police kicked off the banter while India’s batters were sending the ball racing to the boundary. In a witty post addressed to Ahmedabad Police, they joked, “Dear @AhmedabadPolice, you may receive complaints from Kiwis about balls going missing. No need to take it seriously… it’s just our batsmen sending them into the stands.”

Ahmedabad Police quickly joined the playful conversation, responding with mock seriousness. “Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The matter has been reported to higher police officials,” they wrote, continuing the tongue-in-cheek tone that caught the attention of cricket fans online.

The exchange became even more entertaining when Uttar Pradesh Police jumped into the thread with a dramatic “case update”. Their post read, “CASE STATUS UPDATE. Earlier complaint, Ball going missing. New complaint: Entire batting lineup going missing. Our assessment: This is not a law & order problem. This is Bumrah.”

Fans join the banter

The witty reference to Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery spell quickly went viral, with users flooding the comments section with jokes and appreciation for the police departments’ sense of humour.

One user quipped that Bumrah seemed to be a “repeat offender” when it came to breaking hearts, urging Ahmedabad Police to file a supplementary chargesheet for “stealing the middle stumps.” Another joked that UP Police was solving cases faster than Bumrah was taking wickets, saying the Kiwi batting lineup had gone “missing in action.”

A third commenter said the tweets perfectly blended cricket excitement with humour, noting that Bumrah’s deadly yorkers had created a complete “law and order breakdown” for New Zealand’s batting lineup on the pitch.

India clinched the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title for a record third time after defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side had set a daunting target of 256 runs, and New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 159 in 19 overs.
