UPI scams are on the rise and the numbers have increased. The Indian government and UPI have already taken several actions to contain such scams. Now, Samsung has shared some online payment safety tips for its Wallet users, focusing on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). The advice, aimed at enhancing user security, was featured in a video posted by the Indian government's UPI Chalega channel on YouTube.

Here are the tips:Verify the recipient's details before payment

A key emphasis is placed on verifying recipient details before initiating any payment. Users are advised to confirm the receiver's UPI ID and the associated name. This practice helps to prevent misdirected transfers, reducing the risk of sending funds to the wrong account.

Understanding UPI PIN usage

The information clarifies the distinction between payment and receipt processes. The video stresses that a UPI PIN is only required for sending money, not for receiving it. Users are strongly cautioned against sharing their PIN with anyone, as this action compromises account security.

Monitoring transaction notifications

Post-transaction monitoring is presented as a crucial safety measure. Samsung recommends that users consistently check debit SMS notifications after each payment. This practice enables the immediate detection of unauthorised transactions. In the event of an unexpected debit notification, users are urged to contact their bank promptly to report the issue.

Utilising official complaint channels

The video also guides resolving transaction-related problems. Users are directed to utilise the complaint mechanisms available within the UPI application itself. This ensures that issues are addressed through official channels, enhancing the reliability of the resolution process.

The safety tips were shared via the UPI Chalega channel, an initiative by the Indian government to promote secure digital transactions. The information is intended to educate users about best practices for using UPI, thereby reducing the risk of fraud and financial loss. Samsung's integration of these tips into its Wallet platform reflects a commitment to user security in the digital payment landscape.
