  • AI video summaries and infographic editing now available on Android and iOS
  • Slide Deck customization is coming soon, with new formats and language options

Google has begun rolling out a notable update to its NotebookLM app on Android and iOS, bringing features that were previously limited to the web version to mobile users. The highlight of this release is the addition of Video Overviews, alongside expanded options to customise Infographics directly from the app.

With this update, users can now generate Video Overviews from within the Studio tab on their smartphones. The feature allows NotebookLM to automatically create short AI-generated videos that summarise selected source material, making it easier to review complex topics on the go. Importantly, the mobile apps also let users view previously generated videos, complete with playback speed controls. This makes NotebookLM more practical for revision, quick refreshers, or passive consumption, especially for users who prefer audio-visual summaries over text-heavy outputs.

Infographics are also getting a meaningful upgrade on mobile. By tapping the new pencil icon, users can customise how their Infographics are generated, mirroring the flexibility already available on the web. Orientation options now include Landscape, Portrait, and Square, allowing outputs to be better suited for presentations, documents, or sharing. Users can also decide which sources NotebookLM should rely on, select the output language, and add a custom prompt before generation. These controls give users more influence over tone, focus, and structure, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all visual summary.

Release notes for the update also reference new customisation options for Slide Decks, although these features do not appear to be fully available yet. According to Google, users will eventually be able to choose between two slide formats. The Detailed format is designed for standalone reading, with full explanations on each slide, while the Presenter format focuses on clean slides with key talking points intended to support a spoken presentation. Additional options mentioned include changing the output language, adjusting the length of the deck, and adding a custom prompt to guide the audience level, style, and emphasis. For example, users could request a deck aimed at beginners with a bold, playful tone and step-by-step structure.

The rollout for these enhancements began last week and appears to be expanding more widely now. Availability may still vary by region and account, so users are advised to ensure they are running the latest version of the NotebookLM app on Android or iOS. In some cases, force stopping and reopening the app may help surface the new features sooner.

Overall, this update pushes NotebookLM closer to being a fully capable mobile research and summarisation tool, rather than a companion to the desktop experience. By bringing Video Overviews and richer visual controls to smartphones, Google is clearly positioning NotebookLM as a more versatile AI-powered notebook for everyday use.
