Popular streaming giant Netflix has announced plans to roll out a new generation of advertisements powered by artificial intelligence (AI), which will seamlessly integrate products with its most popular series and films. The idea behind this move is to create commercials that are more personalized and relevant to individual viewers. It signals Netflix’s deeper push into immersive advertising, similar to the strategy adopted by YouTube and Amazon Prime.
Netflix’s advertisement strategy: Key details
This ad strategy was announced at the Netflix Upfront 2025 event, which will allow brands to promote their products with Netflix content, placing images of advertised items when a user pauses any streaming video. These advertisements will be powered by AI, so they will be more personalized and interactive, curated according to the liking of a user.
Netflix intends to roll out these AI-driven ads to users on its ad supported tier, which has over 94 million monthly users. Moreover, these play cards will be context-aware, personalized, and interactive with clickable overlays, QR codes, and product placements, according to a user’s liking. There will be two types of ads: midroll ads and pause ads, where the midroll ads will play in the middle of a show, and pause ads, as the name suggests, will appear when a user pauses a video.
The company plans to roll out these AI-enhanced ads by the end of 2025, with a full-scale launch expected in 2026. However, Netflix’s ad-supported plans are currently not available in India.
